It hasn't even been a year since Woods dropped their previous album, the widely praised At Echo Lake. But anyone familiar with the band knows that they don't typically wait too long between releases. As such, it was only a matter of time before they revealed that they had another record in the works.
And that's just what they did today with the announcement of Sun & Shade, which is due out this June on the band's own label, Woodsist. The album, their sixth, was produced by Glenn Donaldson and was recorded over the past two winters in Warwick, N.Y. Donaldson had the following to say about the project:
"These guys veer into West Coast & Kraut explorations when they get bored of structure, but you won't mind indulging them. Woods is back porch with a psychedelic sting in the guitars, a wild percussive clatter & somewhat unhinged desperation in the earworm vocal melodies of Jeremy Earl. Woods & Woodsist try to come-on all laid back with the hippie references, but you know they are not (who is really?). It's the subtle tension, SUN & SHADE, that makes the music worth jamming..."
Sun & Shade drops June 14.
