You probably know Andrew Kenny best for the sleek sounds he delivered as the driving force behind the American Analog Set, if not for his guest appearances with everyone from the Album Leaf to Broken Social Scene. He's winging his way towards new territory (okay, that's two bird puns, can I stop now?) with his latest project, the Wooden Birds.
The first Wooden Birds album, Magnolia, is set to be released this spring on the Barsuk label, and while Kenny's voice and writing will strike a chord with admirers of his earlier work, the Birds are said to be "more vocal- and percussion-heavy than anything he's done before." Interested parties can witness all that bangin' and yelpin' up close and personal, as they're planning plenty of touring for '09, including the obligatory SXSW appearance.
My stupid, impetuous brain had no problem reading that headline in two languages at once, resulting in a mental image of wooden birds flying over a badger that I now absolutely can't shake.
