Winehouse hints at ‘Battle of the Bonds’ with White and Keys

Producers of the upcoming James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, couldn’t wait any longer for Amy Winehouse and producer Mark Ronson to record the theme song.  Their solution was to hand “Another Way to Die” over to Jack White and Alicia Keys, clearing the way for the first theme duet in the history of the series. Winehouse is not taking her removal from the project lying down, however, and has pledged to finish her take on the track. The singer said that the movie producers wanted something “clean-cut and boring,” and that she’s sure her version of the song would have been a bigger hit. Winehouse finished by hinting that she might release her version on the same day as the official one, and that she’s open to a return if the producers change their minds. Though there might be some legal issues that Winehouse is overlooking, hopefully her take on the track will see the light of day. Consider two themes for this film an apology for Chris Cornell doing  the last one. [NME]

Yeah, that Cornell theme was terribly brutal, one of the worst songs I've ever heard. And they're apparently still asking for "clean-cut and boring." You dumb bastard producers owe us an album of alternatives for that one.

i thought chris cornell did a fine job with the last one's theme...not really a classic bond tune, but neither will this one be with these artists

I don't think I've ever heard the words “clean-cut and boring" used to describe Jack White before. Though by “clean-cut and boring," Winehouse probably means "not so coked out that they can still tie their own shoes."

I love Jack White, and Alicia Keys has a great voice even though I don't care for her music... But I can't help but think Amy Winehouse would be a better fit for the new theme song.

Chris Cornell's song for Casino Royale was great I thought - musically powerful, decent lyrics, made a change from all the fluffy crap we had with pre-relaunch Bond in recent years. Unlike cut-price diva Amy Winehouse, Jack White and Alicia Keys are both massively creative in their respective fields and will probably turn in an interesting hybrid rather than a bland bit of retro. Although I can't help thinking Goldfrapp would have been good too...

Amy Winehouse has the perfect voice for a Bond theme and is a better choice for the song. She could bring back an almost Shirley Bassey-type feel.

Alicia Keys and Jack White are great artists, but they I doubt they can pull off a Bond theme.

Chris Cornell's song was one step away from a Nickelback version. It couldn't have fit a Bond film any worse. I agree Amy Winehouse would bring back the Shirly Bassey feel, and I was really looking forward to that. That said, Alicia Keys, though I'm far from a fan, would do a good job. Her voice fits the role, moreso than Madonna anyway. However, I'm not sure what Jack White would bring to it.
