UFC’s Fox 5 card is already stacked. The headlining fight is lightweight champ Ben Henderson defending his belt against number one contender Nate Diaz. Then the main card will be rounded off with former light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua battling Swedish up and comer Alexander Gustaffson and then BJ Penn once again fighting at welterweight taking on rising star Rory MacDonald.
As a free card on Fox, it already rivals some of the PPV cards that UFC has been churning out.
But it has recently been rumored that the two top lightweights may be meeting each other in the octogon to determine who fights the winner of Henderson and Diaz.
Former WEC lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis (15-2) may be taking on former WEC alum Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (19-4). In the event that this happens, this fight could be one of the most electrifying fights of the year. Both fighters are known for their explosive stand up skills.
Cerrone known for his Muay Thai just came off a knockout win over Melvin “The Young Assasin” Guillard at UFC 150. He’s already compiled six bonuses (3 Fight Of The Nights, 2 KOs of The Night and 1 Submission of The Night). And if you’ve never seen or heard of Anthony Pettis, well just check out the video below of his gravity defying kick against Ben Henderson at WEC 53.
Cerrone has been asking for this fight. Fingers-crossed that this gets confirmed. If it does, this just may be the best MMA card to have been put together. There is no doubt that many casual viewers just may be converted that night.
UFC on Fox 5 is schedule to be televised December 2012.
