All of you comic book nerds out there already know about Gwen Stacey's unfortunate fate in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' series, but for those of you who don't, here's the deal: Spider-Man accidentally kills his love, Gwen, and it's this big, tragic ordeal. So, the question is, will Sony stay true to the storyline and give Emma Stone's character the same fate? She seems to hope so.
A few months ago, Stone revealed that she would like her character to meet the same fate as she does in the comics. "Essentially the argument is that Spider-Man kills her by accident," Stone explained, "so the person she loves is the person who kills her, which is the most horrifying thing. Apparently people unsubscribed to the comic book when that happened because there were just so flipped-out over it. But, of course, I want to stay true to that."
And it looks like Sony is obliging. Shailene Woodley is set to play a small part as Mary Jane Watson in Amazing Spider-Man 2, but her character blossoms into a more important role in the third movie, which would correspond with Gwen Stacey's death, because Mary Jane is the one who helps Peter Parker grieve and eventually turns into his new flame.
