Will.i.am will make his film debut in the X-Men spinoff Wolverine. The movie, set seventeen years before the other films in the franchise, follows the origin of the Canadian mutant played by Hugh Jackman. Will.I.Am will play Wraith, a mutant with the power to become “translucent.” We assumed this means "invisible," but a check on the Marvel character confirms that his power stops short of invisibility. Which lends itself nicely to a dramatic scene where Wraith gets to expound on how much more he could have accomplished as a mutant had he been able to fully seal the deal with powers. Otherwise, Will.I.Am will be spending a lot of time explaining why he chose to break into film as a guy who can turn into Crystal Pepsi. Wolverine is scheduled for release on May 1, 2009. [Billboard]
