Wilco's reservations scuttle Blu-ray release of band's documentary
Usually commerce trumps artistic integrity in the music business, but Wilco has made a career out of taking a stand for their musical vision. When Jeff Tweedy and company heard about an upcoming Blu-ray release of I Am Trying To Break Your Heart, the Sam Jones documentary that chronicled the major drama associated with the release of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, they cried foul. Noting in posts on their website that the movie was shot in black and white and was optimized for a stereo only audio track, Wilco encouraged fans to save their money and continue to buy the original edition. After hearing of Wilco's reservations, distributor Plexifilm pushed back the release of the film until it can convince the band that it's worth the extra dough. Though Plexifilm still stands by their original product, the fact that it is willing to put aside immediate profits in the interest of putting out a quality product is a pleasant change from films cynically packaged to squeeze the last dollar out of films. Now off to watch that digitally remastered two disc special edition of The Dukes of Hazzard. [Pitchfork]
