(Via: NME)Hear that? That's the sound of Beatles fans groaning in collective agony.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band turns 40 on June 1 and unfortunately, someone decided a good way to pay tribute to the landmark record would be getting a bunch of bands together to make a cover album. The lineup is still being pulled together but Oasis, the Killers, Travis, Razorlight, the Fratellis, Kaiser Chiefs and James Morrison have been named thus far.
The new versions will be aired in a BBC 2 special. "This will be not only a unique radio event, but a very special musical moment," said Radio 2 controller Lesley Douglas. Insert joke about the range of definitions for "special" here.
To add to the soul-killing fun, the engineer in charge of the original sessions will be sullying the same equipment he used to record the originals on this project. If ever we needed a visit from the ghosts of Lennon and Harrison to help avert guaranteed disaster, now would be the time.

This is horrid. All those bands could burn and hell and the music world would lose absolutely nothing. Fucking Fratellis. What kind of nonsense hyped to the hilt shit are they?
