White Stripes video director to helm Runaways biopic
Floria Sigismondi, who has directed videos for the White Stripes, Interpol, and David Bowie among others, has stepped in to helm a biopic of the legendary Los Angeles all-girl band the Runaways. The band was formed in 1975 and boasted Joan Jett and Lita Ford on dueling guitars. After a five-year run that launched both careers and influenced everyone from Bikini Kill and Shonen Knife to Courtney Love, the band dissolved amidst money arguments and accusations of verbal and sexual abuse by band managers. According to Variety, filming is starting this fall and Joan Jett is expected to be an executive producer for the film. No casting information has been released at this time, but the list of young women in Hollywood who can convincingly shred guitar has to be pretty short. [NME]

I can think of no one who could convincingly bring Joan Jett to the big screen other than Natalie Portman. Sacarlett Johannsen as Lita Ford. OSCARS!!!! |
