The White Stripes’ first-ever live album, Under Great White Northern Lights, is set to drop March 16 on Third Man Records. The 16-song release will be the sister release of the Stripes’ Emmett Malloy-directed tour doc of the same name. The film tracks the duo’s 2007 cross-country tour of Canada.
Like virtually every other release of this type these days, Under Great White Northern Lights, will be available in a variety of formats. There will be a CD, of course, but also a vinyl edition and a limited-edition box set.
The box set will have the DVD, the CD, and a double LP with a live DVD of the band’s 10th anniversary show (Under Nova Scotian Lights). There will also be a vinyl single of “Icky Thump” (Live) b/w “The Wheels On The Bus” (Live) and a hardcover photo book with pics by Autumn de Wilde and foreword by film director Jim Jarmusch. It’s available at whitestripes.com.
