Uncut, U.K. dad-rock magazine, has released a list of the top albums of the decade, on which the White Stripes' White Blood Cells took number one. But before you start praising Uncut for that pick, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' Raising Sand album hit the top ten. And so did two Bob Dylan albums. To which all I can say is, "No."
Jack White is on the cover of the Uncut issue that counts down the top 150 albums of the decade, which is fitting, since five White Stripes albums and both Raconteurs albums were included in the list. I get the Stripes love, but what's with the Raconteurs devotion? That band is meh-city at best.
Here's the top 20:
20 Amy Winehouse - Back to Black 19 Bruce Springsteen - The Rising 18 Kate Bush - Aerial 17 The White Stripes - Elephant 16 LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver 15 Radiohead - In Rainbows 14 Primal Scream - XTRMNTR 13 Gillian Welch - Time (The Revelator) 12 Portishead - Third 11 The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots 10 Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes 09 Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker 08 Bob Dylan - Modern Times 07 Arcade Fire - Funeral 06 Robert Plant and Alison Krauss - Raising Sand 05 The Strokes - Is This It 04 Brian Wilson - Smile 03 Wilco - A Ghost is Born 02 Bob Dylan - 'Love and Theft' 01 The White Stripes - White Blood Cells
c'mon. not every raconteurs track is great or anything, but it's solid pop rock overall, esp. when Jack's on the vocals. and you can dis' Bobby D all you want, you and the giant bandwagon of people who prefer their rock stars young and dead.
