Where The Money Comes From: A Breakdown Of Major Label Profits [Infographic]

 

Ever wonder just where major labels get their profits these days in the ever-changing world of music distribution? The following infographic of Warner Music Group's earnings from the past three months shows how digital downloads and streams just barely eclipse physical recordings at the end of the day. Streaming services, like YouTube, Spotify, and Pandora, accounted for a full quarter of profits from digital recordings. Making up the rest of the pie in increasingly small slivers are artist services, publishing, and various forms of licensing. So yes: people are still buying CDs, and while labels might be hurting compared to their peak, WMG still came away with $654 million in revenues last quarter. [DMN]
