Weezer going eponymous for the third time in June

Weezer’s sixth studio album is scheduled for release and will have a very familiar title. For the third time in their career, the band has decided bestow the title Weezer on their new set. The album, which was co-produced by Rick Rubin, was described by frontman Rivers Cuomo as "dark and deep and beautiful." He added the new set is "definitely more sophisticated and adventurous. You'll hear very long songs ... and non-traditional structures." Given that Weezer has evolved over the course of its career, perhaps the third self-titled album signals more exploration. 1994’s Weezer (the blue album) was the band’s debut. Their second Weezer release (the green album) signaled the band’s reemergence from a long hiatus with a different point of view. Weezer will be available from Geffen Records on June 17th.
