Nathan Williams has a lot riding on the new Wavves album, King Of The Beach. It's his first album featuring bassist Stephen Pope and drummer Billy Hayes, who were formerly employed by the late Jay Reatard. On top of that, aside from a couple of tracks recorded with Hella's Zach Hill, it's his first official recording since the release of last year's Wavvves, and his subsequent meltdown.
So what image does Williams choose to represent his time of hard work and re-tooling? A cartoon cat smoking weed on top of what looks like a beach towel I had as a kid. Of course!
King Of The Beach is due out via Bella Union on August 2.
Soon as this page loaded, I burst into a fit of uncontrollable laughter. Album cover of the year!
