Most everyone by now knows the story of Wavves, the one-man garage surf band composed of San Diego’s Nathan Williams. Hyped by music blogs, Williams became the Great White Hope of 2009. Then he played live and when he didn’t live up to expectations, his star came crashing down as quickly as it rose.
It looks like Williams’ fortunes are on the rise again. For his second album, King of the Beach, he hooked up with Dennis Herring, the producer of the last two Modest Mouse albums. Anticipation is now high and the digital release of King of The Beach has been pushed forward from Aug. 3 to July 1.The album will now be available via iTunes exclusively on July 1 and through all other digital outlets on July 13. The physical street date remains Aug. 3.
One other reason Wavves is making, well, waves, is because Williams hooked up with Jay Reatard’s old rhythm section of bassist Stephen Pope and drummer Billy Hayes. They back him on two songs from the new one and will be playing on his upcoming tour.
