Being that I live in Madison, Wisc., it's been weird to see a story that is happening just a few blocks from my place become serious national news, the kind of news that draws Daily Show correspondents and performances from Tom Morello, who was here this Monday. I saw him on Monday afternoon on the steps of the Capitol, but he played a giant show at Monona Terrace on Monday night (I was seeing Tennis instead), video of which is now above. Morello played a new song called "World Wide Rebel Songs" from his upcoming Nightwatchman sophomore album, flanked by a bunch of people and Wayne Kramer of the MC5. I'm still not sure how I feel about organic protests being co-opted by performers with no stakes in the protests. But still; it's hard denying the power of a bunch of people protesting in song together. [DS]
but having a big performer especially one that's know for protesting brings more attention to the cause
Yeah I know. I'm just a cynical a-hole, I guess. Hahaha
I also live in Madison. It is pretty cool seeing history being made in person.
