Playing recently at the Sound Academy in Toronto, Talib Kweli paid tribute to the late Adam “MCA” Yauch and also performed a new track from his forthcoming album. In the video below, he begins by spitting his own verses to the Beastie Boys classic “No Sleep Til Brooklyn,” a song named for the NYC borough that both Kweli and MCA grew up in. He then goes on to debut a track from his much-anticipated Prisoner Of Conscious LP. Although he doesn’t reveal its title, the new song is notable for the lyrical confidence and rhythmic inventiveness that Kweli displays on it.
Prisoner of Conscious is expected later this year, though no definite release date has been confirmed. Kweli’s performance streams below. [OkayPlayer]
