In one of those rare moments in which MTV still plays actual music, the network invited Lupe Fiasco, Snoop Dogg, and Wiz Khalifa to perform their biggest recent hits for Spring Break 2011. You have to sit through some terrible intros from the Jersey Shore buffoons, but after that, it's all gravy. Well, kind of. Lupe's latest single, "Words I Never Said," sounds great live, but it's ridiculously out of place in this setting. Why didn't he tackle "The Show Goes On" or one of the club-centric tracks off Lasers instead?
Wiz and Snoop on the other hand, who perform "Black and Yellow" and "Boom," respectively, fit right in. I was kind of surprised that they weren't paired together, as they could have given even more promotion for their forthcoming High School movie. Maybe Snoop got a little nervous of Wiz's energy, as the two are usually equally laid-back but the latter is clearly excited here. Maybe I'm reading into it too much.
