Today marks the 20th anniversary of Wu Tang Clan release of their debut classic Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Earlier today, my Twitter feed was inundated with retweets from Ghostface Killah. The retweets displayed photographs of hardcore Wu Tang Clan fans wearing Wu merchandise and respectful celebratory messages. With the level of fame and longevity Wu Tang Clan has displayed over the course of the group’s career, they are proof that age is not always an obstacle in the music world. Just this year, two successful releases came from Wu members Inspectah Deck and Ghostface Killah. And with current rappers such as Action Bronson, Danny Brown, and Earl Sweatshirt, a Wu Tang Clan influence can be heard.
Sway Calloway sat down with a few members of the Wu Tang Clan and showed clips of Hop Hop musicians such as N.O.R.E., DJ Khaled, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, ASAP Rocky, Big Sean, Schoolboy Q, and Kendrick Lamar paying homage to the Staten Island mob.
Wu Tang Forever.
