Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Son" is a '70s lite-rock staple throughout the country--turn on your radio now; it's probably on at least one station--but in GWAR's rubber hands, it becomes much more of a sinister nightmare than a heaven-reaching power ballad.
The ridiculous alien-disguised group performed the song to close out Season 3 of the A.V. Club's Undercover series, wherein a band gets to cover a song in their little round room. GWAR will apparently be the last band to ever appear in said room as the A.V. Club moves offices, so it's a fitting send-off. "Wayward Son" gets the full metal treatment, and lead singer Oderus Urungus hams it up for the camera (which can barely capture the band's outfits all crammed together). Also, this video marks the public debut of new lead guitarist Pustulus Maximus, who replaced Flattus Maximus after his death last year. Watch the madness below, and try to hear "Wayward Son" the same way again.
