Seeing Grimes perform live is a far more visceral and physical experience than one might expect. The young performer oscillates between a variety of electronic instruments-- a keyboard, a Roland 404 sampler, a pedal board-- in an effort to play as much of her music "live" as possible. In this video, which features Claire Boucher as a guest on Seattle's preeminent indie station KEXP, we get a subdued version of that energy.
Boucher lays all of her instruments on the ground and rocks a small set of tracks from her excellent Visions LP. It's a great insight into how hard Boucher works at her craft, and with a much dryer and less affected mix, there's a vulnerability here that you don't get from Visions proper.
