Watch: Freddie Gibbs Speaks On His Career, Records “Rap Money”

Prefix favorite Freddie Gibbs is the latest artist to be featured on MTV Hive’s First Take, a video series that spotlights emerging acts across the genre lines. And rather than solely interview the Gary, Ind. native, they also got some great footage of when he recorded his joint EP with producer/DJ Statik Selektah. In particular, MTV Hive was in the Statik’s home studio for Lord Giveth, Lord Taketh Away highlight “Rap Money.”

Additionally, they learned that Gibbs didn’t even consider rapping until he was 19 or 20 (he can’t remember) and that he raps like he does depending on the beat he’s given. Makes sense to me considering his bars usually sound like they’re surgically attached to the drums of every track he spits on.
