“No Light, No Light” by Florence + The Machine was released as a single from Ceremonials earlier this year, and the band showed up on Letterman to perform the song last night. Letterman introduced the performance with a zinger about the Machine, finally drawing a little attention to Florence’s anonymous backing band. But there’s no doubt who the star of the show is when the grandiose track begins. “No Light, No Light” is one of those songs that seems to get bigger with every passing day, with Florence slipping into the kind of vast spaces rock groups like U2 often occupy, making the track sound too vast for the tight confines of the Letterman studio.
