Olivia Tremor Control’s Bill Doss passed away July 30, a tragic loss for the Athens, Georgia Elephant 6 collective and indie music fans everywhere. Doss was responsible for much of OTC’s freewheeling psychedelia, adding his lilting voice to countless songs over the years.
It was with heavy hearts that members of Elephant 6–including Jeff Mangum, Robert Schneider, Julian Koster, and others–came together on August 4 to pay tribute to Doss with a concert at the 40 Watt in Athens. A slide show portrayed photos of Doss through the years, and the night was marked by both tears and laughter for their fallen comrade. Perhaps most poignant was a reading of “Strawberry Fields Forever,” which kicked off a series of rememberances.
