
Yesterday we brought you a report of Bruce Springsteen’s keynote address at SXSW, in which the Boss confirmed his rock & roll credentials by beginning the speech by asking: “Why are we up so fucking early?” Springsteen also got down to business with the E-Street Band last night, for a show at the Moody Theater in Austin, where he was joined by a head-spinning array of special guests.
Among them were Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine; Régine Chassagne, Win and Will Butler from Arcade Fire; Jimmy Cliff; and Eric Burdon from the Animals. The latter appeared for a cover of “We Gotta Get Out of This Place,” while most of the other artists joined Springsteen for a rousing rendition of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” at the close of the set.
