No matter how often you fly, it's easy to get a little uncomfortable with the whole affair. Everyone says that traveling by plane is statistically safer than driving in a car, but tell that to someone who's going through turbulence in a stormy sky. Still, we almost always touch down, safe and sound, without a single incident marring the flight.
The same can't be said for planes in movies.
The playwright Anton Chekhov once said that if you introduce a loaded gun in the first act of a play, it must be fired by the end of the show. This is often the case with planes in movies -- if an extended scene is going to take place in the air, something bad is going to happen. Flavorwire has compiled some of the best scenes of airplane destruction. Check it out below (via Vulture) and remember that they're only movies.
