For a hard-working band that released two albums in 2006, The Walkmen didn't get much end-of-year love. Then again, neither album really matched up to their first two. A Hundred Miles Off was swamped in muddy Dylanalia, and Pussycats covered an album that was already largely made up of covers. How meta. So Hamilton Leithauser and the boys set off on the road in 2007 with something to prove. At least they won't have to convince us they have good taste when it comes to other bands. They'll have two opening acts generating buzz in the new year. The Broken West are recent Merge signees whose ingratiating power-pop debut, I Can't Go On, I'll Go On, hits stores January 23rd. And Ferraby Lionheart is a much-blogged-about L.A. singer-songwriter. All makes for quite a night of triple-threat rock goodness. Yeah, especially since those are two L.A. opening bands. Have you heard The Broken West? I'm reviewing it for the site. Very nice, if you Big Star-ish power pop is up your alley.

Just heard the few songs on their MySpace page, they're not insanely exciting but are a pleasant listen. Have you seen them live? I'm probably gonna go to one of their Spaceland shows since I can't see them OPEN FOR THE WALKMEN.

Trust me when I say The Walkmen easily one of the most powerful live acts out there. Even if you are not a huge fan of their records they are almost guaranteed to win you over with their live sound/energy. I can't recommend this experience highly enough... We saw them twice in NYC last year and they murdered it both show.
BTW
Oh, BTW - I was referring to the Broken West, not the Walkmen. I love the Walkmen and am jealous that you've seen them twice.

The first time I saw The Walkmen was in the tiniest little club in Baton Rouge. One of the coolest concert experiences. They absolutely electrified that room.

[...] I’m not just saying this out of hometown love because I live here, but L.A. indie is blowing up right now. Like baseball scouts booking flights to the Caribbean, the question is who’s going to be snatched up next. Merge nabbed The Broken West; Matador grabbed Lavender Diamond. Now blog-buzz hero Ferraby Lionheart has signed to Nettwerk. Expect a digital-release EP from the man on February 27th, and then a full-length debut sometime this summer. You can also catch him touring with the likes of the Autumn Defense, the Walkmen, and at South by Southwest. [...]
