What is it about the Internet that just invites the snark? Instead of leaving well enough alone and maintaining its focus on True Blood and fashion, New York's Vulture blog decided to vent a little aggression bashing the likes of Slaughterhouse (composed of Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, Royce Da 5'9" and Joe Budden), Tinted Windows (Taylor Hanson, Bun E. Carlos, James Iha, and Adam Schlesinger), and Power Station (the two Taylors from Duran Duran, drummer Tony Thompson, and Robert Palmer) as the medal podium of unimpressive "supergroups." While none of the bands on the list exactly changed the landscape of music, none of them are really horrible either. It should also be noted that very few bands represent themselves as supergroups. Most of the bands on the list are comprised of musicians merely looking to catch a break or continue making music after the dissolution of their original groups. A better target might be supergroups who sold themselves as such, like CSNY or We Are the World. In other words, leave Taylor Hanson alone! [New York Magazine]
interesting. didn't the person who wrote this post also used to write for prefix? also, that slaughterhouse album was a bit disappointing, but maybe because I had such high expectations for it.
Gravediggaz - 6 Feet Deep and The Pick, etc. are both good CD's, and the writer kind of admits it but insults the group concurrently...
also I like the slaughterhouse album, the tracks are growing on me ...
Complaining about snark on the Internet is like complaining about fights in hockey. It's always going to happen, no matter how much you complain.
The real problem is they chose to pick on the super easiest targets. Who cares really? Anybody could have done it.
How can they list Random Axe when they haven't released anything yet? Not only have they not released an album, they haven't even released a single song yet.
The thing I noticed was that the original article was written by Prefixer Amos Barshad. For the record I think his list was pretty good and I liked the article.
yeah, the point was that the supergroups were unimpressive because the people in the groups weren't famous, not because the music they produced was bad. if you read through again you might notice i don't actually criticize the music of any of these groups. but i can understand the confusion there
I enjoy Tinted Windows, esp. Kind of a Girl, Back with You and Dead Serious. They are great especially live and acoustic.
