Following the release of their critically adored 2009 album, Brooklynati, the three members of Tanya Morgan wanted to take a break and try out the solo thing. We already heard Donwill's Don Cusack in High Fidelity earlier this year, which included personal favorite "Laura's Song." Now, we get the official news that producer-rapper Von Pea will be releasing his solo debut, Pea's Gotta Have It.
Fans of his have heard solo efforts before via mixtapes such as the excellent The Further Adventures Of Von Pea. But this is his proper freshman effort and, in keeping in that high school mindset, Pea actually made this effort with inspiration from his younger days.
“A lot of my material switches back between my 16 year-old self and who I am today as a 28 year old and although I’m talking about my own experiences as a male teenager coming of age in Brooklyn, New York, this album really speaks to anyone who’s ever gone to high school.”
You can stream the first leak -- the funky, vocal sample-laced "The Yorker" -- here. The album drops Oct. 12.
