The competition between the Pitchfork and Siren Festivals, which take place on the same July weekend, just got a little hotter. The initial lineup for the Siren looks surprisingly strong considering how many indie-rock acts are heading to Chicago for the Pitchfork Festival. Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Broken Social Scene, the Helio Sequence, Beach House, and Times New Viking are among the artists who will attempt to lure people away from the Freak Show and the Cyclone.
Vacating New Yorkers Animal Collective the Hold Steady, and Vampire Weekend, who are all playing in Chicago that weekend, will sadly miss out on the chance to chow down on a corn dog in the 90-degree heat. The eighth incarnation of the Siren Festival takes place on Saturday July 19, and entrance is free. More acts and DJs are likely to be announced, but this is the full lineup so far.

BSS!
strong lineup + terrible sound = still a crappy festival
Times New Viking is playing for both teams!

It's on! Malkmus is the full house yo. Too bad if you're more than 10 feet away from the stage in coney island, it's a suck-fest.
