Video: Shocking Pinks "End of the World"

Sign with DFA Records, enjoy the perks. Nick Harte's one man band, Shocking Pinks, released two albums in 2005 on the legendary Flying Nun label to little attention outside of his native New Zealand. Now, with a compilation of the songs from those releases set to bear the little lightning bolt logo, he gets the talents of legendary video producer Richard Bell, who had a big hand in the visual power of clips like Joy Division's "Atmosphere" and Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box." The resulting clip, for "End of the World," is stunning. Nick's sleepy vocals are apparently the result of car crash head trauma, the sweet synth washes represented by lovely sheets of sparks, and the visual subtext makes a heartsick song all the more tragically affecting.
