The Plastiscines feel like a band I imagined when I was fifteen. Stunning French girls playing no frills new wave rock in their native tongue. The globalized world has been patiently awaiting a Francophone break out group that wasn't secretly Canadian for what feels like forever, and that seems like a recipe for success. There's some slightly cheezy girl power shenanigans at this clip's beginning (and really, is the fact that this is an all girl band so shocking in this day and age?), but after that it's all riffs, no guff. We all loved that Long Blondes album, and that band still has the smarter songs, but wearing a beret doesn't make Kate Jackson French, you know?
The band's debut LP1 is finally released stateside on September 18th. I'm going to refrain from further comment lest I dig myself a giant creepy hole. Bon soir.
