Video: My Chemical Romance "Teenagers"

Oh goodie! It's the video for the new(ish) single "Teenagers" by mallpunk icons My Chemical Romance! The song engages the loathsome, subliminal methods used by The Man to keep in check a youthful generation that he doesn't understand; the video plays up the idea with cheerleaders in gas masks and copacetic teenagers that look all too bored to be watching their favorite band play in their high school auditorium. Does anyone else detect some overt similarities to Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video?

I mean, I guess this is catchy, but what an unappealing frontman. How could you not want to slap him?

I defiantly detect some similarities between "Teenagers" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit"... and I might be totally alone on this but I think there are some similarities in the bands My Chemical Romance and Nirvana. Now I know my head will roll in front of the Nirvana fans... I am not talking about musical quality or style. I am talking about message. I think that too many people see My Chemical Romance as one of the most emo and scene bands out there. I think they might be putting it on though. In their fist hit "I'm not Ok" he taunts his fans saying "You sing the words but don;t know what they mean" and there are many references on the Black parade Album to rising above depression and fighting back. Rising and fighting are two things emos and scene kids do not do very well. Nirvana has similar lyrics putting the words in the mouths of their fan base "here we are, now entertain us!" showing how sad their lives were if all they could care about was the music while missing everything else....

THIS PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH! NIRVANA OWNS MCR. THEY WERE THE ORIGNALS. MCR ARE JUST A BRUNCH OF OVERRATED PUNKS. SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT IS A BETTER SONG TO!! R.I.P Kurt I love you...

MCR's music is nothing if not uplifting. Everything MCR creates has at least something hopeful about it, and their songs about death are more tongue-in-cheek than serious.
To label MCR as overrated emo punks or mallpunk emo goths without really listening to what they've created just makes you a close-minded music elitist. Their music is unique and unlike anything else that's ever been done.
(And PS - their live shows have more life and "teen spirit" than depressing Nirvana songs.)
