Video: Celebration "Evergreen"

Here's example number 8,532 of the East Coast/West Coast intellectual bias. How come when a Los Angeles band like Winter Flowers does the neo-hippie thing, the band gets laughed at, but when Baltimore trio Celebration does it, the band is heralded as a "Next Big Thing." (Do keep in mind that Celebration also has ties to the New York City music scene via David Sitek, who produced the band's upcoming The Modern Tribe. New York's derision of L.A. as a cultural backwater is legendary.) Come on, crystal energy? Really?
Also, be sure to check the comment Celebration's Katrina Ford left over at Spinner about a lengthy quote the band wanted to run with the video post. How very verbose and Becky Stark-ian of her.

Winter Flowers ape the neo-hippie vibe in their music as well as their dress. Celebration are just play-acting for the video. Plus Celebration is awesome, Winter Flowers not so much.Maybe?Hello?

Regardless of what bands are involved, it's still unfair that usually the rule is New York City band=artistically viable while Los Angeles band=joke. Then again, maybe I've been reading too much Joan Didion lately. Poor derided California!

I bet Winter Flowers read Joan Didion.

In that both the Winter Flowers sound and Joan Didion's writing was great in the '60s? Yeah, I see a connection there too.
