Diehard Smashing Pumpkins fans have no doubt caught on to frontman Billy Corgan’s fascination with wrestling over the years. Back in 2000, Spin did an article on his love for the “sport.” And in the ensuing years, he would go on to discuss wrestling on various radio shows and even appeared on an ECW program using an acoustic guitar as a weapon. So for those aforementioned SP fanatics, this announcement isn’t terribly surprising. For the rest of us, well, it’s one of those “um, OK, cool” stories.
As Stereogum reports, Corgan has started his own independent wrestling company called Resistance Pro Wrestling. It’s based out of his hometown of Chicago and the first event is slated to go down Nov. 25 at the city’s Excalibur nightclub. Someone at Prefix really needs to go to this. You can watch Corgan’s interview with Fox News below.
