Vic Chesnutt Hangs With Heavy Friends on At The Cut

A new album from cafty, cutting songsmith Vic Chesnutt would be news all by itself, but the veteran Southern singer-songwriter, who's been at it for nearly 20 years now, has something special in store for us with his upcoming album -- his 13th full-length, not counting his albums with side project Brute. At The Cut, Chesnutt's second album for Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Constellation label, is due out on September 22. In addition the kind of intensely lyrical songsmithing that has long been Chesnutt's trademark, At The Cut features a bounty of intriguing guest appearances.

Chesnutt is making good use of the opportunities afforded by his home on Constellation, drafting members of both Godspeed and their extended family members A Silver Mt. Zion to play on the album. But wait, if that's not enough, how about throwing Fugazi guitarist Guy Picciotto into the mix too? Lord have mercy, just what sort of sound has Chesnutt cooked up for us up there at ex-Arcade Fire man Howard Bilerman's Montreal studio? Patience, grasshopper -- you only have to hang on for a couple more months to find out.

Stumble It!

Looking forward to this. North Star Deserter was quality stuff.
