Viacom Doing Its Best to Keep Swift-West Videos Off YouTube

The Viacom-YouTube $1 billion lawsuit has an unlikely victim: YouTube users who flocked to this site on Sunday night/Monday morning looking for video of Kanye West and Taylor Swift's big deal at the MTV VMAs, as Viacom flagged the videos for removal almost as soon as the hit the site. Viacom is trying to direct all of the traffic related to the imbroglio to MTV.com, trying to drive up its traffic along with sticking it to YouTube. Which makes sense, I suppose, since MTV did air the original video. But at the same time, it's not like people watching it on YouTube will only associate it with YouTube; they'll know it aired on MTV first. [NY Times]

It's not about association with the video. It's about the (potential) revenue that is (maybe) lost without ads on youtube next to the video.
