VH1’s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs

Last week, the top five of VH1’s 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs was released by Miss Info, now Stereogum’s got the full list. Despite my hopes, Midnight Marauders and Paul’s Boutique aren’t included in full.

Most of the list makes sense (basically one song per major hip-hop artist of the last 30 years), but there are a bunch of headscratchers. N.E.R.D. on a greatest ever list? “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” not even cracking the Top 50? “The Humpty Dance” at 29 and “U Can’t Touch This” at 26? That and Tupac doesn’t even hit the Top Ten.

But putting “In Da Club” (number 18) on the list is pretty unforgivable—when was the last time you heard that song and didn’t want to punch the person who played it in the face? 2004? Granted, it’s 50’s biggest song, but there’s no way it tops anything by Afrika Bambaataa, De La Soul, or Nas (which it does here). Overall, there’s way too many new songs.

The show premieres tonight and all this week at 10 p.m. EST, and here’s the full list:

nas doesn't hit until 48? forget this thing

The Block is Hot?! Are you freakin' kidding me? Do they have hip hop fans making the list or pop music fans who happen to like some hip hop?

BTW: Nothing wrong with pop fans, but generalists tend to eff up lists when the focus is on a specific thing. It's like Entertainment Magazine creating a greatest Norweigan Black Metal songs list

yeah seriously... Rollin with Kid N Play?... this shît is a tad embarrassing.

/site_media/uploads/images/users/Al/batmulletjpg.jpg Al

I think the last being terrible has a lot to do with it being a poll on it's not like the most knowledgable hip-hop fans are on there voting.

/site_media/uploads/images/users/thestorfer/1202393jpeg.jpeg andross

Yeah, though it's not pure hip hop, I find it amusing they'd include a Roots song but not "The Seed (2.0)"

No "Gangster's Paradise", either. At least they didn't include "Come with Me"

/site_media/uploads/images/users/Ethan/nirvana-corporate-rock-whoresjpg.jpg EStan

Gangster's Paradise is on there Ethan.

/site_media/uploads/images/users/thestorfer/1202393jpeg.jpeg andross

I did not see it. Awareness -1

/site_media/uploads/images/users/Ethan/nirvana-corporate-rock-whoresjpg.jpg EStan

I think "In Da Club" is top 20 material, maybe even top 10. I think "Gangsta's Paradise" should not be in the top 100 though.

In generally it's just a jumbled/confused list.

/site_media/uploads/images/users/daba/me-bermudajpg.jpg Daba

Let me know when you find the "Real" Top 100. How could you not include KRS and Spoonie Gee! Big Mistake!

Lol, this list is terrible...golddigger is literally one of Kanye's three worst songs. T.R.O.Y. at #90? What you know ahead of I Used To Love H.E.R.? Ok, this list is like saying Fall Out Boy is better than The Beatles. Why is it acceptable for the media to not understand hip hop, but not do this with any other genre? HORRIBLE

Where is "93 til Infinity?"

/site_media/uploads/images/users/daba/me-bermudajpg.jpg Daba

Some of these song don't need to be on here. Like Lil Wayne, T.I., Kanye, and 50 cent dont deserve to be with these legends because they havent reached that status yet. IDK how lil wayne got on here. He used to be Garbage and still is. He has the most annoying voice in hip hop today. He cant even come up with his own lyrics... he has to get them from the legends like 2pac.

This BS as usual. But atleast they did include the Bone Thugs Boys. Cuz they never get their props. They had more hits that should of made this list. BTnH for Life!!

Figment of Urr Imagination

wtf!!!!!!! what do they base their list on? first of all, LL has two songs on here. i mean i love LL but his songs dont deserve to be on the list. Also lil jon, MC Hammer, kidnplay, sir mix alot dont deserve to be in 1000 greatest hip hop songs. one love by nas aint even the best song by nas. mind playin tricks on me should be in top 10. Dre cant rap. rappers delight and the message should be on there to show respect but not in top 10 and rakim needs to get up there in top 10 too. run dmc??? what bout brooklyn's finest? what bout the world is your? what bout shook ones part II? damn mobb deep aint even on the list. wow! man why didnt they just put vanilla ice at number 1 if they were going to do a list like this.

Where is 2pac???????????????????????????

How did

#23 B.O.B. instead of Playa's Ball?!!! Hummmmm

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who disagrees with this BS list. T.R.O.Y. at #90 did it for me as well.

what is the deal of this list?? 2 pac has only one song? and is not in the top 5?? and what is that that lil wayne song?? worst list ever..thats for sure ^^^^^^^

Don Celio

dmx - ruff ryderz anthem 79!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????????????????????????? CMON!

Da Chemist

souls of mischief ? or pharcyde !?

holy crap avispits! they don't have...
"Passin Me By" on the list. insane.

/site_media/uploads/images/users/daba/me-bermudajpg.jpg Daba

Where the hell is summer tiime by FPAJJ??????????????

No Main Source, Lords of the Underground, Poor Riteghous Teachers, Brand Dubian, Das Efx, Mobb Deep, Onyx, Redman, Raekwon, Keith Murray? This list a piece of crap.

i couldn't believe T.R.O.Y. rank so low, 2pac dear mama is not on here either, salt & pepa in the top 10?!?! that's over common's I used to love h.e.r.?!?! only one jay-z, 2pac, nas, biggie and 50 cent song?!?! where's ether, one mic, takeover, where I'm from, one more chance, i get money, back down and many men. I don't know who did this list but it's 75% GARBAGE!! (Nelly hot in herre over T.R.O.Y. & Wanksta?!?!?!) But must of just did radio top ten singles.

i do agree this list is kind of wack
but you got to give props to alot of these people
because if it wasnt for this list
alot of them wouldnt be known

straight out bs. no way this is the 100 greatest hip hop songs.

NaS being 48 is ridiculous. There's a lot of things wrong with this list but that might be the most upsetting. He's a legend, and they have Young MC ahead of him. So weak. And why One Love? Thats not even the best song on that album. I would like to see 'I'll be Dat!' by Redman on this list and 'Shimmy Shimmy Ya' by ODB. Wu Tang.

Only 1 2pac song and at #14?
Children's story #61?
What about E-40, Mac Dre, Too $hort? bay area rappers completely shut out. At least one other cash money song should have made it as well. No Mos Def or Talib Kweli other than Black Star what about Get By? good try VH1!

Yeah lol @ Salt & Pepper in the top 10

corny southern rappers

First of all Nasty Nas should be top 5,second what is Lil wayne and Master P doin on there?they are garbage might as well put on lame ass vanilla ice.No Southern rappers should even be on the greatest 200 hip-hop song list.Because of corny southern hip-pop,REAL Hip-hop is DEAD.There is NeVer goin to be hip-hop like the 80's to late 90's.What the fuk is cypress hill,Three 6 Mafia,Lil Jon,Chamillionaire doin on the list.Worst list, who was the fuking moron who made the list.COME ON

yeh because tupac's best song was i get around sure yeh because your not retarded are you i meen FFS what about changes, unborn child, brenda's gotta baby, part time mutha you could have said any of them because they were his biggest hits but no you put him 8th with i get around nothing against the song just your judgement on pac he was a legend and the a pioneer of hip hop so learn a thing or 2 about real hip hop , rnb , rap before you make a very stupid wrong list of song thanks ...

Where can I find a real list? at least they made one?

ODB's Shimmy Shimmy Ya did make the list. And you have to think about it, most people who watch vh1 have dealt with large doses of ignorant love shows and are clearly suffering from some form of mental retardation.

And don't knock all southern rappers, Outkast and Geto Boys are dope. I listen to Mind Playin' Tricks On Me at least 3 times everyday to this day.

The Hip-Hop Chick

Maybe I need to get my eyes checked cuz I must be going blind. I'm having a hard time locating Mobb Deep somewhere on that list. One of atleast four songs should have made the list ("Shook One Pt.2", "Survival of The Fittest", "Quiet Storm", or even Prodigy's "Keep It Thoro") I see Nas, although I love "One Love" I feel like he has other "top hip hop song" material ("It aint hard to tell", "If I Ruled The World" even "Hate Me Now" and uuuhhh a song called "Ether") Those are just a few. What happened to The Roots "Don't Say Nuthin" or "You Got Me" Raekwon's "Live From NY" Ghostface's "All That I got Is You" or "Apollo Kids". I'm not even gonna mention all of the missing 2pac songs. I mean this is wack and almost a disgrace to the world of "real" Hip Hop.
However, I did watch the show and one thing that I realized was that each song had a video, many great hip hop songs that deserved to be on this list don't even have videos. Maybe they should redo this like they do those "I Love The...(90's)" and have them broken down in 5 or 10 year time frames or just get a more accurate way of calculating.

no kool g rap songs at all on dis list or big daddy kane but they have lil wayne and t.i?!?! disgrace ''on the run by g rap is easily top 10,and ''mind playn tricks on me'' by the geto boys definetly desevers a spot here,t.r.o.y number 90?!?!?! imo dats a top 5 and maybe number 1!! also the world is yours by nas and it was a good day by ice cube shud be any hip hop fans top 100 list!!

lmao lil wayne

wat the hell is gold digger 18th its shouldnt even be in the top 200

this is disgusting why is busta rymes Whoo ha #56 and digable Planets cool like dat #62 whoo ha was'nt even on the same level. whoever made this list this is on supercrack and should be shot THEN fired. this is disgraceful. WTF wheres 2Pac ? Those stupid bitches at vh1 should stick to what thet f*%kin know Rock and sh!t cuz they f*@ked up the hip hop list. I am officially upset.

damn bitch

there a few i dont agre with but where is gangsta party?????

no rakim and krs1 in top 15?!?! but there is jay z and eminem...ahahahahahahah,and only one rakim song so funny list...u must have some problems with ur head.

lmao at nasty saying why didn't they just vanilla ice as number 1 hahahahah

and i was hoping to see big poppa :/

tupac "Brenda gotta Baby, Dear mamma, Keep ya head up", Erick B Rakim, "make em clap to this, I aint no joke . KRS1' why is that" all classic none made the list what a joke you might as well have had Vanilla Ice, Joskie Love with the Pee Wee Herman song and Rappin Duke on here Da Ha Da ha this list is not hood appproved

1 . Tupac- keep your head up

f*** Obama

People calm down! Vh1 does this kind of thing ALL the time. They have tons of screwed up top 100 lists (One Hit Wonders, 70s, 80s). It's voted on by fans. Fans of Vh1. A very middle of the road sorta older group. I mean who really watches Vh1 anyway? Think of their demographics. They can't help it.

If you want a more urban list you would need to look elsewhere.

VH1 should be ashamed...

nothing by Gang Starr?--Erik B. and Rakim, once? anybody ever heard Follow the Leader & Microphone Fiend? plus a bunch of crossover garbage and stuff for 16 yr old white girls...when KRS-One,Kool Moe Dee, Chuck D etc were on the set that was hip-hop and what they're doing now aint nothin but a shame
lampin old school...danny Oh

danny Oh

u have dmx ruff ryder anthem 79 and nelly's hot in herre 36! are F*ckin kidding me?

Does anybody know wher ice ice baby and loose your self is on this list?????????????????

It was a horrible list. I only caught bits and pieces and I had to change the channel when "T.R.O.Y" came in at 90 (travesty right there), and was immediately followed by Cam'Ron "Oh Boy" at #89.

I'd bet many of the most credible MCs over the age 30+ have "T.R.O.Y" in their own personal top 10. And just about every top producer can't talk enough about how incredible the beat is on that song. That's easily top 5 material on a legitimate list of best hip-hop songs (if I made my own list it would be #1)

Tupac songs that had the flashiest music videos made the list instead of his best songs.

Not a single Preemo-helmed song on the list as far as I can tell by a quick glance. And that's a shame, because that man has contributed quite a bit to the Hip-Hop Honors shows. And the fact that he doesn't even get recognition on this list is pathetic. He has helmed so many classics.

I'm sure they did a piss-poor job representing "regional hip-hop" like from Atlanta, Houston, Memphis and Oakland too. But I don't know enough about hip-hop from those places to comment on that.

Not going to complain about P.E. at #1, but to me it seemed like just picked "Fight the Power" to appease the Golden Age/purist hip-hop fans out there.

There are just some straight up BAD songs on this list too.

I could keep on complaining too but it's futile. The producers know that these countdowns spark debate, but they don't have any intention of making any changes.

/site_media/uploads/images/users/djgoodbaby/prav web cam 3.jpg djgoodbaby

Where is Lauryn Hill's Doo Wop (That Thing), her song went to #1 on Hot Billboard 100, and she still didn't get a recognition in this list, The Fugees belonged here which they are with Killing Me Softly, but she needs to be recognized as the MC that she is.

i think that ignorant s*** by jay-z should be on there because half the people in here posting are ignorant s***s.. if your gonna say stuff like no big daddy kane and no geto boys lol check to make sure that there not on the list cause there on the damn list..

with that being said this is a s***y list for true hip hop fans but lets face it if we were to make a list of 100 best songs there would be 12 form pac 8 from biggie 5 or 6 form eminem dre and snoop would be well represented ice cube and wu tang clan would have a bunch on there BIG L would be on there at least 3 or 4 times Big Pun would have more then 1 song NWA would be on there a few more times jigga would have 4 or 5 songs.. do you see my point? There would be 10 or 15 rappers making up the top 100 and that wouldnt be good tv so im guessing vh1 tried to represent all big names atleast once with there most main stream song..
My problems with the list are as follows 2pac should have had dear mama and changes in there biggie need at least one more either mo money mo problems or warning BIG L should have been in the top 10 with put it on and probably in the top 20 with either ebonics or mvp..
my top 10 is
10. Str8 outta compton- NWA
9. Shook ones - Mobb Deep
8. Put It on- Big L
7. When I B On the Mic- Rakim
6. Hard Knock Life- Jay-Z
5. Changes- 2pac
4. Juicy
3. With Out Me- Eminem
2. It Was a Good Day
1. Nuttin But A G Thang- Dr Dre

capital s oh yes fresh n double o p

VH1 had no buisness at all making a top 100 hip hop list. They barely cater to hip hop fans in their regular programing! And if Wayne is going to be on the list why "Tha Block Is Hot"?. And only one song each from pac and big eachm, C'MON MAN!

What dip sh it made up this list? Vhs needs to monitor who makes these lists up a little better.

Rap Star

I believe the top 10 was pretty good.
But Wayne did not need to be as far up as he is
not knocking Jon and the ESB. just saying.
and Kanye shouldn't have been as far up either. hell to the no. that should've been in Jon's spot. or off the whole list. absolutely not his best song at all. if he HAD to be on this list, "Diamonds" would've been better. or "Through the Wire"
And Chamillionaire? Sorry
Tupac and Biggie definitely need more props on this list. Most definitely.
Speaking of which, some Mos Def wouldn't hurt. at least they got Black Star "Definition". Not a bad song at all.
Not the greatest list though.

Poetik Deceit

I have to admit, the list is wack. You just have to remember that this is one list out of millions. Every single person is going to have their own opinion of what the best hip hop songs should be. I do agree that lil john,50,lil wayne, and T.I. should not have been on the list. The rest were ok but not at the right spot or with the right song. And "daba", you wack too. How can you say that "In da club" is top 10 material while "Gangsta's Paradise" is not. You probably one of the people that voted on the VH1 list.

big L

everyone is gonna have their own opinion. but this list is soooo whack. used to lover HER is way to low. and boogie down productions only has one song. My philosophy isnt even their best song. i dont even like rapper delight....

Everyone will have a different opinion of who should be on the list. It doesn't matter who made the list, either BET, MTV, Fuse, somebody will be unhappy wit the list.

Plus, it also said for viewers to vote, watchers of it, or non watchers who just happened to stroll past the channel. They let viewers choose it. They did not just decide to randomly throw in songs. But as my sister said, "If you didn't go into the website and vote, voice opinion on who should go there, what shouldn't go there, then you don't have jack sh*t to say. "

Maybe the songs that were voted were liked more than the songs or artists you people typed, wrote, or listed. Maybe they sold more records than the songs you people are putting in

Professor Membrane

tupac should be on here with at least two more song
dear mama
and changes
and if not at least set the ONLY song he has on here higher
i mean really he was one of the best rappers of all time
and he stil is

worst list ever

this sucksthis is seriously the worst list ever

stop that

No Ahmad - "Back In the day"?????

Ahmad - "Back in the day"??

1 2pac 1 biggie come on thats just trieble wheres changes getto gosple or big poppa...and no MO MONEY MO PROBLES what is this

/site_media/uploads/images/users/prefix/no-user-pic.gif mgen89

Wow. I agree with the top ten except for the #1 song... It's a great song, but there isn't enough verses in it, it's mostly just beats and noises. Good though, maybe should be in the 9 spot. "Paid in Full" should be top 10.
These are aall the songs that shouldn't be here, in order.

99 Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz ft/ Ying Yang Twins: Get Low
94 Master P ft. Sikk, Fiend, Mia-x and Mystical: Make 'Em Say Ugh
89 Cam'ron: Oh Boy

80 Three 6 Mafia ft. Paula Campbell- Hard Out Here For A Pimp
79 DMX: Ruff Ryders' Anthem (Stop Drop)
74 EPMD: You Gots To Chill
72 J.J. Fad: Supersonic
70 3(rd) Bass: Pop Goes the Weasel

Hi yo NIGGA.

Er, Pete Rock & CL Smooth - They reminisce over you......How can that not be in the top 90? which fool compilled this thing.....What about the Pharcyde? Jeru the Damaja? Mos Def? Gangstarr? There shoould have been two lists, one with Eminem and Heavy D and Kid n Play and 50 Cent and the other with true Hip Hop.

yo whoever put this up dont know alot about hip hop wene it comes to tha 100 Greatest Hip Hop songs where is tha ol skool u start from there wene it first started then go up 2 tha 90's not peeps like 50 cent or Lil Wayne Hip Hop 2 Me Died After 97 wene Biggie Died. Hip Hop changed so much after 97 there is no classic hit after 97 some notables after 97 are DMX - Ruff Riders Anthem
Dr Dre - Still D.R.E
Jay Z - Hard Knock Life
Pras - Ghetto Superstar
Heres how i put it out for u peeps its like this
WestCoast - 2 Pac - California Love
EastCoast - The Notorious B.I.G - Juicy
Durrty South - Scarface - My Mind Is Playing Tricks on Me
Midwest - Common Sense - I Used To Luv H.E.R
Westcoast - N.W.A - Straight Outta Compton

Durrty South - Outkast - Atliens
Midwest - Bone Thugs N Harmony - Crossroads

what the crap???Eminem is suppose to be number 1# !!! or at least have more of his songs.stan is NOT his best song.

I watched the show and Eminem looks alot better now. He's lost alot of weight and isn't wearing glasses.I can't wait to get his new album!

Thought "capital s oh yes fresh n double o p" was pretty close with a great top ten. My changes would be:

15. I Used to Luv H.E.R. - Common
14. Mathmatics - Mos Def
13. The Militia - Gang Starr ft. Big Shug & Freddie Foxx
12. Rabbit Run- Eminem (so much better than Lose Yourself)
11. D'evils - Jay-Z
10. Str8 outta compton NWA
9. T.R.O.Y. - Pete Rock & CL Smooth
8. Shook ones pt. 2 - Mobb Deep

1. Mind Playin' Tricks - Geto Boys

E dubU

E dubU

ok. the POINT of this list is to show OTHERS wat the ppl who voted (who could have been anybody. i could have done it) thought the top 100 songs were. it was who WE thought were good. not the media. no criteria, no watever, just if we like it, hate it, or love it, or watever. u gotta understand that.

First off... I'm just as upset, if not more upset than any of you, but I realize who made this list and who voted for it... VH1.
VH1 is a f*cking tabloid. I repeat VH1 IS A F*CKING TABLOID!!!!
You can't expect the type of person to pick up cosmo or esquire to know a goddamn thing about hip hop. Oh an btw wtf is up with so many people loving Juicy? That song sucks. My retarted second cousin can come up with better rhymes than the sh*t on that song. NOTORIOUS BIG IS OVERRATED.

boss hoggin

@Fredward40 hands - You're crazy if you think Juicy sucks. The rhymes are sick. Its relevant, legit, can bump it, actually says something, its the total package. I actually think its top 3 material if not number one. As far as the list, it is pretty bad. Nas-One Mic deserves a spot. Jay-Z f/ Eminem - Renegade deserves a high spot. Talib Kweli- Beautiful Struggle, Mos Def- Ms Fat Booty, or Mathematics, A Tribe Called Quest - Bonita Applebum need to be on here. There's a lot that don't deserve placement on this list, and many that are more than qualified to replace them.

T.R.O.Y at #90!?!? Thats top 5 material. Here is the people I think should be removed from this list Lil Jon,Lil Wayne,L'Trimm,Chamillionaire,Three 6 Mafia,50 Cent,Nelly,Fat Joe and any other Artist/Song that came out after 2000.
Btw:The ten tracks on Illmatic are way better than VH1's top ten.

How can you have shes a gold digger above Bone Thugs n harmony Crossroads? Are you serious? In da club ahead and crossroads? Cross Roads Is a top 20 song, maybe top 10. Songs like in da club and gold digger should be 80th or above. I couldn't tell you the last time someone put on party in da club, and if they did, they would defiantly get made fun of.

Some one said cypress hill should not be on the list are u crazy

Cypress hill are legends in hip hop
they invented song to get high two

3(rd) Bass: Pop Goes the Weasel

Dis is also a good song for the person that said it sould not be on the list
just listen to it
MC serch i a master at the rap game

Dabig d

Wow...once again the "experts" got it all wrong. This is more like a list of "What videos do we have laying around labeled hip hop???" then an honest list. So many forgotten.......Diamond D, Big L even Skillz....I mean go classic but contemporary too. Wheres Immortal Technique????? And Hype, to go off of what you're saying Fat Joe was lacing tracks like "Flow Joe" back in the 90's...hate him or love him he's an icon in the industry. Even if he only puts out one good single every three years. lol To the powers that be at Prefix....Let's assemble a summit and devise a top 100 list for hip hop please.....lets educate these youngsters on the true facets of hip hop. Oh, and one last thing.....where the f@ck is Camp Lo on that list????? "Luchini", a classic. One.

/site_media/uploads/images/users/WillieBoy/m_0e17a4718ca3ea0b4bcf0364b506d27c.jpg WillieBoy

This List is Bullsh*t!
It should be like this:
1: The Loyalists - Loyal Theory
2: Immortal Technique - Peruvian Cocaine
3: Army of the Pharaohs - Swords Drawn
4: The Lost Children Of Babylon - Revolutionary
5: GZA & RZA - Liquid Swords

I didn't read every single comment, and sorry if i'm repeating this but REGULATORS IS #98??? R they smoking?? Thats like top 10!! I'm through... this upsets me,,

yo yish i i agree with you all the way they don,t have any yay area rappers seriously though not even one mac dre or e 40 song. also there some songs that should not be on there or even exist i mean seriously they had to put on that fake garbage ass 50 cent. fuucking bullshiit list

oh my god this list is horrible half these songs shouldn't even be considered hip hop. I mean most of today's rap music suck. I miss the good old days when rappers actually had something to say.

They should dig a whole and put this list in it!
I love classic hip hop and I didn't see nice & smooth, gangstarr, redman etc The old school artist that did make the list was for some of their worst songs Most of you said pretty much everything I would have Electric relaxation should be in the top 5 at least, Apollo Kids in the to 10 at least or should this list be called the 100 most commercialized hip hop song list in that cas where is Oaktown 357, Vanilla Ice and more MC Hammer? We all might try denying that we liked these songs but for all old school fans this was our version of what is now the soulja boy era except they could dance and make sense during rhyme delivery

You are all nit picking over individual artists and songs and missing the big picture. The whole list is garbage.

4 NWA - F**k tha Police
3 Ice Cube - It was a good Day
2 Dr Dre - Still DRE

This is music 4 life...

heyy does anyone know a song on this list that has a saxophone playing on the background? and its not a tribe called quest....its more of a slow song like easy listening but the thing i can tell u a saxophone or trumpet was playing in the background. please helpp :D i been trying to find this song for monthhsss its annoying >:O!

i agree tupac should be wayyy up on the list. but yall hatin on lil wayne.. he is a hip-hop genius. when he is retired he will be all over the list.

lil wayne was ok before all the bull he's been doing, once he started to get fancy, it was game over for him. sure he has punchlines and a good flow, but u could never ever put him up there with the greats never

There are some great joints on here, but overall I do not like this list. Were they trying to put together a list of 100 artists/groups in hip hop? This is a week attempt to stir a discussion. Not wasting my time.

wheres eazy e? I get around is not as good as other tupac songs. lil wayne block is hot should be on the list but not as high nas should deffinitly ranked better than jay z and lil jon is a disgrace. vh1 is telling me that if i just yell random patethic verses in the mic and act like a crackhead all the time i can be in the top 100. wow cmon. and stan is not even ems best song and neither is the song they put for the beastie boys

this is wack up . u hear me mangs

the god father

There's way too much filler here

where is all the regeton

When i first saw this list i flipped cuz there is some way better stuff.....but if you really think about it all these songs have had huge impact on the hip hop/rap world...

tupac shoud of been number one 2PAC2PAC2PAC2PAC2PAC2PAC2PAC2PAC2PAC2

didnt people vote on this?

fckin noobs

uh Crazy Baby i think the song your looking for is They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.) by Pete Rock & CL Smooth.

No Pharcyde? They dont know sh*t.

Da Mac

I have yet to see where anyone mentioned "Murder Was the Case"... that entire album was hot...but especially

"Murder Was the Case" - Snoop
"Natural Born Killaz" - Dr. Dre & Ice Cube
"21 Jump Street" - Snoop

I have no argument with PE being #1 or SHG being #2... do disagree with 2-pac not being there...

Nobody here will want to include it, but keep in mind that the idiotic "Ice, Ice, Baby" was the first Hip-Hop Track to hit #1 on the pop chart...that should have at least gotten Van Winkle a nod at #100...

Typical Vh1 list...some good...lot of terrible

who shot ya? should be no.1. on everybody's list.

banji coker

what i hate the most about this list is gold digger!!one of the best hip hop songs???what the f***??how did that happen???

anonymous girl

What about KRS-One?

were is eazy e ?
were is 2pac-hit em up ?
were is NWA-express yourself ?
were is ice cube-gangsta rap made me do it ?
were is dr dre-still dre ?
were is eminem-lose yourself ?
this list is a peace of crap

p.s-Lil' Wayne is a comercial rapper

I can't believe there was no Gang Starr! This list was a joke for the most part... Here's my take on it:

Zen Denizen

This list is bull mierda I wish some one wouldve dug underground and got some of that plus Cypress Hill has made much better songs than insane in the brain sure that's their beat known song but definately not thier best.

in da club should be number 1. same with hot in here

I only found a few problems with this list - and trust me I love hip hop. First off, I think the list is great because it reflects people's opinions of the greatest hip hop songs. Personally, I think 50 belongs somewhere on the list but definitely not in the top 20 maybe top 50 at the most. Secondly, I think that Stan is one of Eminem's worst songs. A better fit in my opinion would be Lose Yourself since that was featured at number 4 (I believe) on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs over the Past 25 Years. The Top Twenty is almost perfect except the song that made Missy Elliot famous is The Rain and that would be a better fit than Get Ur Freak despite that being a great song. I personally would put The Message at Number One since that was one of the first hip hop songs to have a social motif to it despite it being so awesome. I myself don't understand why Nas wasn't in the Top 20 instead of 50 cent. I think that MC Hammer shouldn't really be on this list either just because I think his songs are pretty rediculous (just a personal thought). Lil Wayne aint bad but definitely top 50 material. Common should be higher up on the list because I Used to Love H.E.R. is a classic. And for A Tribe Called Quest I would've chosen Electric Relaxation since that is seemingly their most known song. I would've liked to see Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check up higher since Busta is one of my favorite rappers. And that's about all I have to say about that list.

I think that more people need to know about Lupe Fiasco. He has some awesome songs, such as Daydreamin', Kick Push, and Superstar. And why no Talib Kweli? Ok... TROY at 90? Wow. Thanks media or screwing people's minds over.

u people need to realize that this list was based on peoples votes. If you didnt go to and vote then too damn bad. Its not based on facts. If it were you would see like 50 Tupac songs on there since we all know that he's the best rapper who ever lived.

A white guy most definitely made this list... this is like "Now! Music Vol. 25 Best Of All Time." Truly Appalling to any true hip hop fan. Chamallionaire is actually top 10,000,000? Truly idiotic. No time or effort or straight interest put into it. God I hate mainstream media. All the money put into these employees and can't even make a justifiable list. Truly pathetic.

"I get around" Tupacs best song???F*CK OUTTA HERE..."Do 4 love,I aint mad atcha,Hail Mary"EtcEtc are way Better..Whoever made this list needs to be slapped by a hiphop purists dick!

What the f*ck.......where's Rakim, Biggie, Big L. You can't make a list without 'em.

True Hip Hop

if you know hip hop today then you know that hip hop to vh1 is comprised of artists, in tha sense that these cats push an image. back in tha day this image uesd2 be a portrail of the artists life as he viewd it. nas states hip hop is dead. nas is poetic, hip hop hence went underground.. to find and undrstand what hip hop was and is about, only the underground market will provide this for you, lil wayne is not hip hop, as he claims, he was born into wealth.. yes he acquired his own wealth in his credit through his body of work, its not his fault he has become popular, its mass society, popular beat music is what i dubb commercial hip hop.. tsk tsk tsk vh1 maybe next year

my top 5 5. notorious b.i.g-juicy 4. 2pac- i get around 3. ice cube- it was a good day 2. dr.dre- notin but A G thang 1.- eminem lose yourself

i can't respect a list with:
Dead Prez's It's Bigger Than Hip Hop not on it
Pharoah Monch's Simon Says not on it
Busta Rhymes' Break Your Neck not on it
Ludacris's She's A Hoe not on it
& DJ Kool's Let Me Clear My Throat not on it

AN F-ING DISGRACE. This is only half a Greatest HipHop list. The other half is was jes pulled from the Pop charts.
Even at number 99, they gonna put Lil John ova Biz Markie?!!! You gotta be friggin kidding me

Motley Crue

nas halftime should've been # 1

some of these songs were good but there were plenty they couldve removed and replaced with others. im not too big on hip hop although i do like it but i can say no doubt tht hip hop is dying and fairly quickly

M.C Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" should be replaced by Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz's "Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)", because that is the greatest one hit wonder hip hop song ever. I also think there should be two more Busta Rhymes songs ("Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See " & "Gimme Some More"). Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth's "They Reminice Over You (T.R.O.Y.)" should be top ten at least. LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out" is also better than "I Need Love". KRS-One's "Sound Of Da Police" should be on there. Nas's "The World Is Yours" is better than "One Love". Scarface's - Smile should also be there. Basically I can go on all day on whats wrong with this list.

This list is joke.the only things they seem to get right is Public Enemy at number 1. wtf.

they DEFINITLY should have some big L thrown in there
and immortal technique is deserving too but he's underground so that doesn't surprise me

Big L, technique, Wiley, more Nas, more Biggie and some Jurassic 5 and more A Tribe Called Quest shpuld all be in there. I mean how can 'can i cick it?', 'machine gun funk', 'red hot' and 'mvp' not be in there.

well biggie smalls should have a couple songs on the top 20 juicey in my opinion should be number 1 hes the best rapper ever and no 2pac isnt the greates 2pac is number 2

PE deserved 1# I do however object to the TUPAC song chosen he had much better material that could had been used.I think jazzy jeff & the fresh prince should had been higher on the list they help make hip hop diverse as far as style's go.other great hip hop artist who should have made the list include brand nubian,Xclan,yz,the lost boy's,dead prez, the coup,RASKASS,however I understand that some people might be offended.

WHY isn't 2Pac in the 1st place??? And WHY the song listed there isn't one of his best??? (I mean, it's good, but not the BEST), and WHY WHY WHY WHY Bone Thugs N Harmony is in #32??? This list was made by someone who knows SH*T about music. I'm not black, but hell, I know better! (I'm latino), Cypress Hill #34???? COME ON! They should be above many of the ones who were closer to the 1st place. I can't believe that list, honestly. The 2Pac part is the most annoying, seriously, no person with a freaking brain would ignore him and his best material! Number 14 is INSULTING! They were unfair to many other rappers that deserved better places in that list, but I guess the ones that stand out of that list are the godfathers of rap that were given LOUSY PLACES AND WAY UNDERRATED!

this list stinks worse than my name

is there a working torrent for this list

1 should be boys in the hood it is by far better than any song on this list because you really shouldda known by know eazy duz it

Worst list I ever seen IN MY LIFE, but like some others said it was based on u have to ask yourself who really gets on the internet and takes the time to vote on things like this? ummm... young ppl most of whom know nothing bout REAL HIP HOP so I really didnt expect too much from the same ppl who gave flavor flav his own show..... on top of that with everyones list is prob going to difer from generation to generation... us in the 28 and up crew will prob have alot of similar ppl in our lists maybe in diff places but the younger crowd is gonna have all the little waynes and kanye wests cuz thats what they know... and most site like VH1 market to younger ppl bcuz they will spend the money..... or get they parents to... so this list is what it is.... a disgrace like everyone else i can not beleive TROY is that far down... its a sad time in hip hop when this is a compiled list of what ppl consider the greatest songs of all time in hip hop... thats why i stay underground and old school now....

How about Gangstarr!? Mobb Deep? El P? solo Mos Def? Jeru the Damaja? K-Solo? WTF are they? And to the dude who Cypress shouldnt be on here? FU, they should be much higher! So should EPMD! There needs to be more KRS-One, Rakim, and Nas. Nas #48? 50 Cent that high? Lil Wayne? Master P? Chamillinaire? Three 6 Mafia? Come on! Much Much better Ice Cube than "It Was a Good Day"! Predator is lame compared to his first two albums. Nothing against Fight the Power, but I'd rather see Welcome to the Terror Dome! Sick beat on that s**t.

Young HATE U haterz

they need to push back everything back one spot and put easy-e's real muthaphukken g's on their. no easy that should be illegal

where is afroman's colt 45

Er, Pete Rock & CL Smooth - They reminisce over you......How can that not be in the top 90? which fool compilled this thing.....What about the Pharcyde? Jeru the Damaja? Mos Def? Gangstarr? There shoould have been two lists, one with Eminem and Heavy D and Kid n Play and 50 Cent and the other with true Hip Hop.
Yeah wtttfff where are they at and how bout black moon and the beatnuts?

Wtf is dis shit

To all of u that think that southern rappers killed hip hop... I agree! I'm from Louisiana and I'd like to say F**K hip-hop. Rap however is alive and kickin. Big ups Weezy, Jeezy, Bun, and all my southern affiliates. My biggest plex with this list is that Diamonds an Wood, nor Back dat Azz Up and on here. What about Lollipop? All these New York rappers are trying to rap all educational but nobody keeps it real like the South. Yes that includes Gay- Z and the rest of um!

R U trying to tell me out of the LONG lists of classics that Rakim has made the ONLY one to make the list is Paid in Full!?!? The song he hardly said anything at all in!?!? WTF!?!?!

Please....this list is so laughable it's not even funny.

The fact that they only have 1 song per artist is just wrong. Notorious deserves a couple more spots, so does Nas, and many other rappers too.

Mike Hobizal

weak list, thought VH1 could cum up wiv betta than this. think they tried including some post 2000 songs, and it didnt work, lol. also rated on influence and commericalism when needs to be more about lyrics, definition and heart, yea influence is important, but seriously messed up this list... i get around instead of keep ya head up, and rakim shuld be no. 1 on any list 4 anything on hip hop.. lets be honest (maybe exception of album which goes 2 nas, but hes 2nd, lol)

i need to find out a song...can ne1 help me wid it..its a hiphop song that keeps on repeating 'gotta go gotta go'

saurav nepal

How did Eminem make No.15 and beat out all the Hip- Hop legends like MC Hammer, and a bunch of others?????????????????

you niggas fukin ignorant its a fukin opinion tbh i only like around 40/100 of those songs. imo nas is sh!t lil wayne is sh!t jay z is sh!t kayne is sh!t. but thats just me. now stfu and quit bitchin about the list its a fukin opinion

I think everyone can agree tho that if u put T.R.O.Y at 90 you really dont appreciate hip hop. Im not saying its my personal favourite but I recognize it as one of the top 10 greatest songs. Also Where is The World is Yours!!

Please!!!! Revise this sad list.

Where the hells all the Gucci Mane

Big L is the greatest rapper ever and he's not even on the list but Salt-n-pepa is in the top ten, who was voting for this list, Britney Spears? Lady GaGa? Only rappers should have been able to vote, Big L definitely would have made it then

vince fisher

OKAY 1ST OFF I know this person above did not mention Gucci Mane who has had 1 top list hit nation wide really...even though i love kanye's and TI 's lyrics and feel at one point they will become legends but they shouldn't be on this list not by a long shot 50 SHOULD NEVER BE ON ANY LIST WITH THE WORD HIP HOP "In the club was not hip hop but rap and was really more a pop hit...cause to tell the truth not to offend anybody but rarely d you see black people with actual brought legal music white people make rappers rich... we bootled cd's hit up limewire etc. SO that house 50 has is thanx to them lol and that's why he made VH1 list if BET made one for staright up hip hop they probably wouldn't include 2000 up artists
2 what the hell tupac is not in the top 10 WTF and the song VH1 chose was I get around really for all the dope lyrics and aongs he did and they chose that song from when he was still with digital underground HIS REAL HIP HOP CAME FROM WHEN HE SIGNED WITH DEATH ROW VH1 and I do agree with the top 10 except i would knock salt n pep off 2 11 i luv dem and insert a better pac song in there something with a deeper message like keep ya head up or dear momma damn even california love something besides i get around

if this was hip hop where is my favorite rappper and im surprized nobody said joe buddens just because hes underground hes not on the list he even had a number 1 single too and i put him up with nas or jay z when it comes to lyrics or what about pharoh monch talib kweli mos def jadakiss twista immortal technique jedi mind tricks even fabolous keepin it gangsta was my sh*t crooked i royce da 59 and i just realized this where the f*** is OOOOOOOOOnNNNNNNNNNNYYYYYYYYYYXXXXXXXX's slam that was a classic and i still listen to 100

Gucci Mane doesn't deserve to be on this list because he's a garbage artist. His music is total garbage. Who wants to keep hearing about materialistic nonsense and seeing some dumb jerk freak that looks so uneducated? His music and lyrics are worthless. Nothing positive comes out of them. It's all just trash music just like Souljah Boy, Baby, Lil Wayne, and other artists like them.

Garbage artists of today can't hold a candle to the great artists of the 90s. Big Daddy Kane, Black Moon, A Tribe Called Quest, etc. These great artists and groups made positive differences in hip hop music. Artists today don't care about anything but the old mighty dollar. Hip hop was never about money. It was about life and music. It was about being real, but these garbage artists of today aren't real. They talk a lot of bull when all they are are cowards. All they produce is garbage trash music that promotes materialistic crap like cars, jewelry, and clothes and promiscuous acts of sex. Today's so called hip hop is worthless. These artists of today are sorry excuses of human beings. They get paid to shell out garbage. Back then, rap and hip hop was more about music and less about materialistic nonsense. And it's the kids of today that are brainwashed by this trash and they're going to be the ones to suffer. It's the blind leading the blind.

Artists today are irresponsible jackasses who only care about money. They’re a waste of space and voice and talent. From what I see, they’re all a bunch off talent less hacks.

Brian C. Leggett

First off, 50 Cent's In da Club deserves to be right where it is. It was a huge song when it dropped and still is. Tupacs singles werent nearly as big until he started the beef with the East Coast. They were nice songs, but only really named notoriety after the tragic murder. These are the singles.

Your list makes no sense. Those are definitely YOUR favorite 100 Hip Hop songs. Jay-Z's Hard Knock Life is so much more influential and had a bigger mark on Hip Hop than your whole #20 - #6. Thats where I stopped reading. You are completely biased as you are obviously a Tupac lover, and it shows. Keep Your Head Up wasnt anywhere near as big as Dre/Snoop 'Nuthin But A G Thang'. And Eminems MOSH? That shouldnt be up there at all. Thats not even one of Eminems biggest songs, let alone Hip Hop.

***Andrew Winistorfer***
You shoule be ashamed of yourself. There is no Afrika Bambaata song that was bigger than In da Club. Just because it came out first does not make it any better than the rest.

alright this is BULL like complete BULL regulate number 92 like wtf! and i used to love her is number 50 but still props tht they put bonethugz they r true hip hop but some of this .ist is true but i completly disagree with numer 1 tht song was terrible the only good thing with tht song was the video also props for puttin juicy in there thts practicly the greatest song ever and thts all i gotta say bout tht

they must be the most idiotic people ever therez way better songz then these they have some yeah but they dnt kno s h i t about music f u c k vh1 mainstream *******

Wusup with DO OR DiE?!
Their sh!t's hot. this list is
should not be named the
100 greatest hip-hop songs.
uh-uh. nope.
it needs some re-aranging; re-modifying;
ya hear me?!

You CANNOT have a top 100 period. There is no way to rank any of these in a "fair" way. Each of these songs is heard on the radio or has a radio version. Almost every artist that has mention on here has one or two way hotter joints. They need a list of the 500 most bad a$$ rap/hip hip songs in no particular order...and put Rakim's entire catalog!

My .02

F this List: Where are songs from illmatic: World is yours, Ny state of mind, halftime, Nas is like, Hero?
And tupac's Hail mary, Life goes on, california love, last one breathin', ghetto gosphel?

eazy-e's boys in da hood and wat about dr dre's still dre and mobb deeps shook ones part 2 this list needs help

Actually dude on number 4 Aerosmith done the song originally and then they got with Run-DMC and done a version. So it would be Aerosmith ft./ Run-DMC: Walk This Way

California love should have been in top ten...

This should be called best old school hiphop songs. Cause I havnt heard half of these. And eminem 15? And Stan? Stan is like his top 5 best but not best. Should be my name Is or slim shady or sonething. Stan should be like 30 something. But still dope. Props for Revovery. Can't wait Negros!

gretest hip hop and rap eminem and 50 cent
i like that yo you dont it song top up
rap and hip hop

2pac should be on top ten, with 'hit em up' or 'california love'. 2pac rocks, he was and is one of the greatest rappers alive (actually dead). and gin and juice should be on number two. This list is embarrassing.Only some of them are on their place.

How the h*ll can you leave out Special Ed- "I Got it Made"? Talk about an anthem! Are u serious?!

This list is brutal. PE does deserve to be #1, but in my opinion "welcome to the terrordome" should have it. But also love fight the power. RUN DMC-Walk this way? What about Sucker MC's! Missy Elliot @ 16! A joke!

This top 10 would have been

1.Frantic Situation- Afrika Bambaataa
2.Looking for the perfect Beat- Afrika Bambaataa
3.Jam On It- Newcleus
4.It's Nasty- Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five
5.Fast Life- Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde
6.Space Cowboy- Jonzun Crew
7.8 Million Stories- Kurtis Blow
8.Buffalo Gals- Malcolm McLaren
9.Rap Will Never Die- MC Shy D
10.What I Like- The 2 Live Crew

I agree with In Da Club and Gold Digger being extremely out of place, this list does include some classics, but some of the songs seem ill-considered. (Hate it or Love it deserves it's spot though)
I also agree that Illmatic should have at least 3 songs in the top 20.

Infact, it's too confusing to simply put only 100 hip-hop songs as the "bests", there are too many great songs to choose from, In Da Club is not one of these good songs.

you have to be Kidding me tupac dear Moma, California Love, are not on this list and the only MC fron the Bay area is hammer nothing fron to short, e 40, Digtal Undeground who came up with these list VH1 is dusted with this list.

2pac 2pac 2pac 2pac 2pac !!!!!!! were da freak iz 2pac! 2pac iz 1 of da best rappas 2 eva live, to eva walk dis plant, & u aint got him on dis list man yall trippin bra. straight UP. STUPID. estan locos!!!!!!!

i agree with many of the people that hav commented on the list that

1. this is complete garbage. its been established. a porno could have made it. ok people, it's over. got it?

2.second of all, nobody else needs 2 make ur own list, b/c odds are it would b awful and would probably have green day in there or somethin awful.

3. we get 2pac, biggie, nas, and others should b up there more, but clearly they only allowed one song per artist, which was a complete fail. get over it.

4. jesus christ this is a long ass post. and we all know T.R.O.Y. should be ranked MUCH, MUCH higher.

5.(finally) i am a 15 year old african american male, so please, dont say that ALL modern day teens are brainwashed by modern music. the reason that the majority of us listen to it are because most of the decent rappers from the good days are retired, except for say nas as a classic example. but maybe were something good as some of these, equal to who shot ya or Straight outta compton, that might change, so if any1 would be so kind to do so, be my guest, OR SHUT THE F--K UP.

that is all.

the only thing that really pisses me off about this list is that shook ones pt. II aint even on at least top 20, come on vh1 what's wrong with you

they should pay omeg to all rappers I mean if it werent for them we wouldn't be here talken about them :)

I cant beilieve they don't have any Eminem, like common he is one of the best rappers out their.

no Raekwon or Madvillain? uh... no.

and eminem is at 15, ahead of OUTKAST

No one is going to like this but Rapture by Blondie deserves to recognized on this list. It was the very first time most people heard of this style of music and immediately demonstrated it's potential commercial appeal. And it's better that Rappers Delight, which just sampled off of "Good Times."

WTF is this list, no wu tang, immortal tech, forget it all the people who voted for this list does not know the big artists of hip hop. wtf is 50 cent and kanye doin in there. VH1 you're a disgrace of real hip hop...

"death row, what a brother know!"
I would vote for 20 more PE songs as #1 before I would list anybody else for this category!
Public Enemey used to be the KING! There is still no rapper out there with a commanding voice like Chuck D! He rocked!

Nick P.

When will you half baked idiots stop attributing choice cuts from Nas' later albums to the Illmatic tracklist? Nas is Like, Hero, If I Ruled the World (Imagine That), Dance were all on his later albums.

#1 is definitely fair-- #20?! Kanye?! I'mma let you finish but Gold Digger was not better than Planet Rock, it was NOT better than Paid in Full. Through the Wire should have been Kanye's choice cut and yes, it belongs in the top 30, but not above Planet Rock! Come on VH1, have some sense.

Dame Diddy

I used to love H.E.R at 69!?!?! what the HELL!? and keep that bitch wayne off here

to not have shook ones on that list or survival of the fittest just shows that list is garbage. 50 cent in the top 20 are you kidding me. and no Scarface i seen a man die

Opinions are like a$$hole$, everybody has one.

I'm still amazed that " Scenario" or" Flava in your ear" Remix are not on the list. ANd one person on here actually was upset that Busta Rhymes was ahead of Diagable Planets. They were Tribe called quest clones w/one good song! They can't compare with Busta's catalog!!!!!

this list is AWESOME the only thing that missing is MY HUMPS by fergie G.O.A.T. other than that this list is the cats pajamas

st. ed tusick

Obviously this is a terrible list and every post has repeated that. No Gang Starr might be the biggest kick in the balls but I am more concerned with some of the omissions of the so-called hip hop fans that are posting comments. I may have missed a couple comments but I have not seen anyone mention Jadakiss separate from the Lox. Seriously?? Lost Boyz anyone?? We all remember Pac and Biggie and most true fans, Big L, but what about Freaky-Tah? You could take half the songs from Legal Drug Money and put them on a list. How nobody has mentioned Dead Prez, Binary Star, Too-Short, or Onyx is beyond me? You're all I need by Meth and Mary? I am pleased to see a lot of fans bringing up some great artists and songs, I am just surprised that 2 years of posts has yet to mention these names.

Dirty Jerz

No pharcyde? This list sucks balls. Ant tupac didnt hit the top 5 or even 10? Blasphemy.

pac's not even in the top 5 lil wayne and mc hammer in the top 50 wtf i dont think so surley there has to be a better list than this this list is total BS

whatz it to ya

why dont you shut the f**k up? your gettin mad at people cus they post their opinions about the list who the f**k cares is that now what this response box is for? if your so annoyed with it why are you reading the f**kin things dumbass

Umm, first of all. No Tupac in the top 10? Changes needs to be up there! Maybe not at #1 but forreal. And where the hell is Shook Ones Pt. 2? That song is Mobb Deep's anthem! The song also has one of the best hip hop instrumentals ive heard in my life. And really? Lil Wayne should not be in this list, nor should he be in any list that compares himself to Tupac, Biggie, Nas, NWA, Rakim, etc. Seriously people? You need to make alot of improvements to this list...

aha wow........ i think many of thes songs r bad ass like gangsters paridis, dear moma, and parents jus dont understand, but CMON................................. VH1 needs to be pimp slaped in the face yo.....:]
*pimp slaps VH1*

Where's stronger by Kanye west, where's 99 problems, and Can I get A?, Where's Dangerous by Busta Rhymes.Where's Eminem's Cleaning out my closet.

He go hard

where is Big L NY state of mind or halftime by nas should be top 20 dmx should be in the top 30 tupac's dear mama should be 8 fight the power should be third to rappers delight and nuthin but a g thang in general if i were making this list it would probably consist of maybe 30 artists at the most

this list sucks dick!
top 50 songs should have atleast 5 songs from illmatic, and rest should be pac, biggie, krs one, dre (from chronic), mobb deep, rakim, bone thugs, wu tang, biggie and maybe a few songs here and there by snoop, eminem, jay z and kanye!
lil wayne doesnt deserve to be on the same internet page as pac, nas or ay of the other greats. i am going to slap myself now for writing their names in the same sentence.

atlanta a-braver

this list was terrible
really, only one wu-tang song.
protect ya god damn neck vh1.

About 54 of the songs on this list are laughable. Where is Tupac Shakur? Snoop Doggy Dogg? Biggie Smalls? Eazy E? Slim Thug? Redman? One line from any of these guys is more than most rappers careers nowadays.. Sadly.

Greatest lists are always debatable. But y'all a bunch of whiny bitchez. Whaah that song sucks! Whaah my song isn't here! Whaah LL has 2 songs on here. Whaah 2Pac has only one. You would think this the reaction to the greatest nursery rhymes list! Did U really think a list voted on by the general public was going to represent the hardcore fans? And if you really are a hardcore fan, not ONE of the opinions above should matter to you. Not this list, not the opinions about this list. The only thing that matters is the fact that you love your favorites. If you are so offended by this list that your peers have created for you, then you must be second guessing yourself. What other people say shouldn't matter to you when it comes to music. But y'all don't wanna hear that from a me. I am just a Juggalo

Missy Elliott: Get Ur Freak On!!! whomever made this list, go kill yourself!!!!!

I see a lot of fans are upset by this list,as they should be..but we must understand that there is hip hop..and the different types of hip hop for example Outkast's southernplayalistic song, Nas's it ain't hard to tell,& wu tang's c.r.e.a.m...3 different beats,3 different concepts..but its still hip hop u know..we all have different taste when it comes to our music..just like the food we eat..Now having said that lol.. P Rock & cL's T.r.o.y & doug e. Fresh's the show should've been top 10. Blacksheep's the choice is yours should've been ranked much higher than what is was and last but certainlly not least, how could tribe's bonita applebum not make the cut?....there are several other changes that i would make if it were my list, but that's for some other time..anyway when you have spare time go on youtube and type in Blac soap "demo shoppin" a new up and coming dope hip hop group..also check out POST FOR FREE! Have a good day & god bless
