The madness stops here. We will no longer refer to Vetiver as a "freak-folk" band. Hanging around with Devendra Banhart has earned them that pigeonhole, but there's nothing freaky about their expertly crafted tunes whatsoever. Whew, with that off our chests, the San Francisco folk-rockers (yes, that's right, get used to it) have a fresh batch of those finely wrought songs on the way. The fourth Vetiver album will be the band's first for Sub Pop, who are set to release Tight Knit on Feb. 17. Recorded in L.A. and Sacramento, the album was produced by Thom Monahan, who has worked not only on previous Vetiver output, but also with the likes of the Pernice Brothers, Little Joy, and yes, Devendra Banhart. The folks at Andy Cabic and company's new home say that the album "unfolds like a road trip through the Appalachian Mountains of Cabic's native Virginia," so get ready for some bucolic bliss come February.
