While U2 sought to jump off the ship by selling stock, and Chuck Schumer has urged that the Live Nation/Ticketmaster merger merits investigation, some artists are putting pen to paper in support of the new company. Van Halen, Shakira, and Seal have all written letters of support that will be taken to an anti-trust hearing on Tuesday. Here is a selection of Seal's missive:
"Anything that can strengthen the link between music creators and music lovers has my support. I believe the combined company will achieve that by aligning resources, talent and services."
Doubtless it is important for Live Nation Entertainment to show it has support of the artist community, but let it be noted that Madonna, Jay-Z, U2, and even the Eagles have remainded mum on the issue. This is not exactly the flood of letters from Miracle on 34th Street. [Reuters]
