While fans of the legendary alternative rock band the Pixies had their hearts set aflutter by news of a "new" release called Minotauryesterday, it turns out the release is actually just a box set reissue of the band's four full-lengths and debut EP with extra art created by the artists who art directed their covers: Vaughan Oliver and Simon Larbalestier.
The set is being released by Artist in Residence, which decided not to remaster the audio on the band's albums. The set will include the original mixes of Come on Pilgrim, Surfer Rose, Doolittle, Bossanova, and Trompe Le Monde. There will be no live tracks, but there might be some bonus tracks that haven't been decided on as of yet. The two different sets, one Deluxe and one Limited, will feature loads of extra artwork, however.
The Deluxe Edition will retail for $175 and feature the five albums on layered CD and Blu-ray, plus a bonus DVD of the band's 1991 Brixton Academy performance, plus all of thier music videos, and a 54 page art book. The Limited Edition will set you back 450 clams (that's right $450) which includes the Deluxe Edition materials, plus the five albums on vinyl, a print of Oliver's artwork, and a 72 page book.
Minotaur is due out on June 15.
A major kick in the face of Pixies fans.

First the economic downturn, and now this?
WHO REALLY CARES ABOUT A BLOATED RE-ISSUE OF ALBUMS THAT I'M SURE FANS ALREADY HAVE? THIS IS THE STUPIDEST THING I'VE HEARD SINCE PEARL JAM RELEASED A SUPERDELUXE VERSION OF TEN FOR THE 15TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE "LEGENDARY" ALBUMS RELEASE.
WHO GIVES A CRAP ABOUT RE-ISSUE OF ALBUMS STILL IN PRINT?
NOTE TO THE PIXIES: GIVE US A NEW ALBUM OR GO AWAY... COME TO THINK OF IT, I LIKE THE BREEDERS BETTER ANYWAY....
