The rumors about Kanye West and Lady Gaga’s joint Fame Kills tour have turned out to be true. Live Nation, who were promoting the event, have issued a statement saying the tour has been canceled and refunds will be issued to ticket holders. No further information is available at the present time, but expect a shit storm of finger pointing to unfold in the next few days.
The tour was due to begin on Nov. 10 in Phoenix, and would have stretched right through to January. The plans for the shows, as relayed by Gaga, sounded spectacular:
"The storyline is that Kanye is on one end of the stage and I'm on the other, and the whole show, we are trying to get to where each other is,” she said. "I want something that he has, which is the fame, and he wants something that I have, which is home, and my humble beginnings. So we battle each other throughout the entire performance to steal each other's spaces. So I'm essentially on a quest to kill Kanye West to steal his fame."
Sadly, we’ll probably never get to see her attempts to usurp West, as the refund offer suggests these shows are unlikely to be rescheduled. West’s interview with Jay Leno in the fall-out from the VMAs debacle now seems oddly prescient: "So many celebrities, they never take the time off," he said. "I've never taken the time off to really — you know, just music after music and tour after tour.” It’s possible that this really was one tour too many for West, although who instigated the cancellation remains a mystery…for now.
