Next UNKLE album to feature members of QOTSA, Massive Attack, more

U-N-K, U-N-K-L-E! The collaboration-heavy group will return July 24 with the new album War Stories. It’s the James Lavelle-centered project’s third album, and second now without the assistance of DJ Shadow, who paired with Lavelle on the 1998 UNKLE debut Psyence Fiction. Adding guest vocals to War Stories include Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, 3D of Massive Attack (who also provides album artwork), Ian Astbury, and members of Nada Surf, the Duke Spirit, and Autolux. Lavelle himself even gets in on the singing action himself on the tracks “Morning Rage” and “Hold My Hand.” A limited number of copies of the album will come packaged with an instrumental version of the album. Lavelle put in some work on War Stories at California’s Rancho de la Luna Studios, where Homme has long worked on his Desert Sessions project. A full band incarnation of UNKLE is expected to tour North America this fall.
