The harried execs at EMI haven't quite taken their therapists off their speed-dial yet, but they're probably breathing at least a little easier with the news that Britpop bosses Coldplay have already chalked up their fastest-selling album to date in England. Viva La Vida, released over there last Thursday, sold 302,000 copies in three days, landing it at the top spot on the British album charts, even though it wasn't released until halfway through the sales week.
Will the U.S. fall in line as well, putting Chris Martin and company that much closer to world domination and offering their faltering label a possible future? Between the ubiquitous iTunes commercial and obscure Brooklyn band Creaky Boards' seeming inability to turn public opinion against Coldplay with iffy plagiarism insinuations, signs point to "yes."

Cold Play sucks and Chris Martin is arrogant. To suggest Cold Play is the next U2 is just plain wrong and only adds to the band's already inflated egos. Oh and by the way I live in Winnipeg where the bands concert has been cancelled due to production problems???? I think not. The more likely case is that the band thinks they are too good to play in our city. Not to worry. It's not like we are missing anything......
