U2's Canceled Tour May Have Cost Them $148 million

Remember that U2 venture across North America that got canceled? The one where Interpol were going to open and show off their new lineup? Well, the costs of canceling such a venture are now coming to light, and it turns out that Bono and his band are going to be hit hard in the pocket.

A loss of around $148 million is expected to be accrued by the group as a result, and all because Bono had to go in for back surgery. “If we play or not, touring still costs us £500,000 ($741,000) a day,” said U2 manager Paul McGuiness. Ouch. Still, it’s unlikely that Bono will feel the pain that much, and the tour dates are likely to be rescheduled.

The Edge has been quoted as saying the canceled tour dates may be staged in August instead, although how such a huge touring operation could be put together in such a short space of time remains a mystery. Perhaps Bono is scaling down his ambitions to save further back woes?
