U2 Cancel U.S. Tour Due to Bono's Back Problem

Anyone hoping to grab an early look at the new Carlos D-less lineup of Interpol, or perhaps see U2 live in concert, is out of luck. The joint North American tour by the two bands, which was due to begin on June 3 in Salt Lake City and end on July 19 in New Jersey, has been canceled.

The reason these dates have been pulled is Bono’s pesky back problem, which he had to have an operation on in Munich on Friday (May 21). Where’s Jack Shephard when you need him? Clearly he’s not a U2 fan. Longstanding U2 manager Paul McGuinness has issued the following statement about the cancellation, which also affects a headline performance at the Glastonbury Festival in England:

"Obviously Bono feels terrible about missing these shows and we are working as fast as we can with Live Nation to reinstate them and reschedule them for next year," he said. Next year? Looks like ticket holders are going to have a long, long wait before they witness Bono’s return.

He'll be laid up, giving his feet some el-uh-vay-shun.

No, seriously, I hope he gets better soon.
