On Battles’ still excellent album Mirrored, Tyondai Braxton acted as the sole vocalist, although it’s kind of hard to tell considering the laundry list of effects and manipulations he ran his voice through. Well, as of today, the propulsive math-rockers are losing their voice.
In a statement released by Warp, the band announced Braxton’s departure, citing a conflict between Battles’ recording and touring schedule and Braxton’s work as a solo artist. There is no further word as to how this will affect Battles’ new album, but the band has canceled October appearances at ATP’s Release The Bats event in London and a show at Le Poisson Rouge in New York.
For those unfamiliar, Braxton has worked as a solo artist for years now, stretching back to way before Battles existed. His most recent release was 2009’s Central Market.
