Tyler, The Creator To Tone Down Lyrics On New Album, ‘Wolf’

We have known about Tyler, the Creator’s third album (or second if you don’t count Bastard, for some reason), Wolf, since some time last year. But back then, all we could do is speculate that he’d be embracing his even crazier alter ego, Wolf Haley, for the entirety of the album. While that might be true, it turns out that he might not be as insane lyrically as we assumed. At least, that’s what he told Spin in a recent interview:

“Talking about rape and cutting bodies up, it just doesn’t interest me anymore,” he says, contemplative and sincere, looking directly into my eyes, now sitting cross-legged on the hotel bed. “What interests me is making weird hippie music for people to get high to. With Wolf, I’ll brag a little bit more, talk about money and buying shit. But not like any other rapper, I’ll be a smart-ass about it. Now it’s just girls throwing themselves at me and shit, but I got a girl back home. People who want the first album again, I can’t do that. I was 18, broke as fuck. On my third album, I have money and I’m hanging out with my idols. I can’t rap about the same shit.”

In case you think he’s bullshitting all of us, dude’s been saying the same thing for a little while now. Just watch another interview he did at this year’s SXSW Festival, because he said almost the exact same thing. Wolf is tentatively scheduled to drop in May 2012.
