Twitter just got a little more complicated to explain to your parents. Now you can say something like, “Imagine blog posts that have 140 characters or less…and possibly a video or audio file attached. Oh and maybe a headline.”
The company announced “expanded Tweets” yesterday, which allows certain media partners to attach extra content to their tweets. Soundcloud is one partner that will release a version of their widget that can be embedded directly below tweets, allowing users to listen to audio directly from their Twitter feed without clicking through to a second site.
Other partnerships that will use expanded Tweets include old pals the New York Times and WWE, who will now be able to display extra headlines, images and video below a tweet. [TechCrunch]
