TV on the Radio Taking a Break For a Year

It's been a long, stressful road for one of the most critically acclaimed bands of the past decade. The band nearly broke up in the turmoil of recording 2006's Return to Cookie Mountain, and have been touring relentlessly following Dear Science, the reigning album of the year for Rolling Stone and the Village Voice. The band headlined Prospect Park last month, and finished up their touring schedule at Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco this past weekend. MTV got ahold of  singer Tunde Adebimpe, who admitted that the band was taking a year off to attend to other projects.

Adebimpe, who made his breakthrough acting apparance in last fall's Rachel Getting Married, said the band is taking a year to attend to other projects. Currently, guitarist Kyp Malone is working on a solo album, and producer Dave Sitek is working on the debut album of Brooklyn Israeli band Pink Noise.

From what anyone can tell, this is a finite hiatus, unlike that of Sleater-Kinney or My Bloody Valentine. Adebimpe indicated that TV on the Radio fully appreciates the band's longevity, noting, "if you'd asked all four of us six years ago if we'd want to be in a band, unanimously, it would be like, 'Well maybe for three weeks, yeah.'"

After the band's touring schedule and studio work in the past few years, it'll be sad not to hear from TV on the Radio for awhile, but we'll certainly hear more from the band in the future.
